June 25, 2003 - Honourable Ernie Hardeman meeting with TOGA board of directors at Queen's Park

Toronto - The highest quality production standards in the world, savings from shared administrative and organizational infrastructure, a stronger voice with government and stakeholders, and maintaining a strong commitment to community citizenship, are the common goals of a new greenhouse industry alliance in Ontario.

Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, Flowers Canada (Ontario), and Ontario Greenhouse Pepper Growers’ Association announced today that they are participating in a new industry organization called TOGA – The Ontario Greenhouse Alliance. The Alliance represents the largest cluster of greenhouse production in North America located right here in Ontario.

The new alliance will address greenhouse barriers to growth, and create new skills-training opportunities. In addition, the project will introduce a best practices program to monitor enhanced standards of excellence for greenhouse products.

Our top priorities are to our rural communities and our members. This alliance will allow us to realize savings by eliminating duplication in all three organizations, on such issues as human resources administration, border crossings, transportation, nutrient management, water supply and more.

As well, our combined economic strength on purchases, research and information sharing will contribute value to our members and local communities.
